This unique module monitors the secondary of a current transformer and instantly applies a short circuit if a voltage, indicating an open circuited secondary, is detected. If open circuit the secondary of a CT can produce very high voltages that can pose a significant safety hazard - shock hazards to personnel and the potential to cause the CT to catch fire. The Emphatec SigNext CT Shorting Module can apply a short circuit to the CT when a voltage as low as approximately 2V is detected, well before it becomes hazardous. Once the short circuit is applied an alarm output is energized and the short circuit can be applied indefinitely without any concerns about overheating.
The module uses a rugged steel enclosure and vibration resistant terminations for increased reliability. It is compact and DIN rail mounted for easy installation and is cULus Listed.
